NICOLE MOUDABER THE UNDISPUTED QUEEN OF TECHNO ROLLS UP HER SLEEVES FOR ANOTHER HUGE SUMMER IN IBIZA

What sort of mood are you in today?

“I’m in a Miami mood today! I’m here right now just catching up and chilling for two days before heading to Mexico.”

When was the last time you went out to dance to another DJ?

“I would say about two years ago! I haven’t had time to do that unfortunately, but I am itching to just let go and be on the dancefloor like I used to. I always dream about that moment where I can let go for two days! It’s going to happen.”

What can you tell us about the remix package of your 2015 ‘Breed’ EP that you released with Skin – whose mix had you jumping around like a lunatic?

“All of them, I have to say. They’re all very different and each producer has just delivered the best ever. The ones that really stand out are Scuba, Pan-Pot and Paco Osuna.”

You voiced your irritation of the ‘female DJs’ issue at IMS in May – does it trouble you that much?

“It doesn’t trouble me at all because I live in my own world, not anyone else’s. I am engulfed in my work and things that are happening. What I would like to do is inspire both young girls and young boys to follow the same path if this is what they really want to do. I never really found it an issue although I’m so sick of this term ‘female DJ’ – what is that? Maybe I should talk about all the DJs I’m booking onto my parties like, ‘Oh we have a great male DJ, his name is Damian Lazarus!’ It’s so stupid.”

What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken in life?

“I think getting into racing was a big risk because it’s dangerous and I am a thrill-seeker. But I’m not scared of speed and now I’m an official racer. Things can happen, but the thrill is greater so I follow that.”

Your gigs in Ibiza this summer, why do you love them?

“Circo Loco is very special because I have managed to gather a lot of international clubgoers when I’m playing – they’re all there at Circo Loco and it feels so welcoming when I’m playing. The history of DC10 is no nonsense, no VIP, no bottle service; people are there for the music. I’ve been going to this club since forever and I have some incredible memories and moments in that place. It’s always very special when I play that room – it is so intense.”

Carl Cox’s Music Is Revolution

“With Carl I’ve been doing it almost half the time that he has. Having to play the final season [at Space] with Carl is going to be a very emotional moment. He actually said to me ‘Can you believe this is going to be the last time people are going to see us together at Space?’ He’s been a very important mentor and instrumental in everything I’ve been doing, so to be playing there over the last season is going to be amazing.”
