BEAUTIFUL SKIN WITHOUT SURGERY The Ibiza-based dermatologist Rafael Tomás reveals the latest innovations in cosmetic technologies, which rejuvenate the skin without going under the knife

Wrinkles, marks and flaccidity are just a few of the problems our skin can suffer from as time goes by. Fortunately there are professionals such as Dr Rafael Tomás, who uses the latest technological advances in order to help clients regain a luminous and youthful-looking tone in their skin. We catch up with Dr Tomás in his Ibiza clinic, to find out about the newest innovations in dermatology and cosmetics.

Which of the technologies revolutionising cosmetic dermatology do you use in your clinic?

Nordlys is a new system developed by Pulsed Light, called SWT. From Denmark, this is a light and laser platform that offers new solutions for skin rejuvenation, photo depilation, acne, rosacea, couperose, varicose veins and nail fungus. We also have phototherapy, featuring different LEDs for a range of clinical and cosmetic conditions. In resurfacing we add Nordlys and phototherapy to Fraxel. For photo depilation, the best two systems are Nordlys SWT and the LightSheer Desire diode laser.

Can all of these machines oust cosmetic surgery?

The patient now has better and safer techniques to solve their clinical and aesthetic problems. There are new treatments that are basically replacing the surgeon’s knife.

What are the most in-demand treatments?

Clients usually come to our clinic looking for antiwrinkle, anti-spot and antiflaccidity treatments, with the intention of enhancing the glow and texture of their skin.

Do clients come to your clinic for health reasons or aesthetic ones?

I would say half come to solve health problems and the rest for aesthetic reasons. In summer, the skin suffers more than during the rest of the year.

What treatments do you recommend in order to revitalise your skin after spending a lot of time in the sun and on the beach?

After the summer the skin needs to be rehabilitated in all its aspects – from the inside with a good diet and cosmetic pills, and from the outside, with the combination of these technologies and new external aesthetic treatments.

And finally, can you give ÏU Mag readers some general tips for looking after their skin?

“Mens sana in corpore sano”: Healthy mind, healthy body. I recommend good eating habits and exercise, complemented by dermo-aesthetic treatments such as peels, phototherapy, radio-frequency treatments, lasers, Nordlys and cosmetic pills.
